Wildflower Publications

  1. Wildflowers of Tennessee the Ohio Valley and the Southern Appalachians by Dennis Horn and Tavia Cathcart (Would be my suggestion for the first book because of the color key and great photos.) This is my go-to book!
  2. Wildflowers of Tennessee by Jack B. Carmen.
  3. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide by Lawrence Newcomb. I find myself depending more and more on this publication. (Sooner or later, a must-have)
  4. Guide to the Vascular Plants of Tennessee, Compiled and Edited by Members of the Tennessee Flora Committee. (For advanced wildflower and plant identification)
  5. National Audubon Society Field Guide to Wildflowers, Eastern Region (Great as a take-along and also has a color key)
  6. 2bnTheWild.com a website by Daniel Reed (Lives in Mt. Juliet. His site also has a color key)
  7. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. I am a contributing photographer for this website.
  8. United States Department of Agriculture Plants Database.
  9. Kris Light’s website.
  10. Illinois Wildflowers.
  11. Tennessee-Kentucky Plant Atlas.
  12. Missouri Botanical Garden. This site has Latin name pronunciations.

  1. I am so amazed by this website! Thank you so much for all the information and the beautiful photos. I started my wildflower adventure as a cut flower farmer. I tried to add as many natives as possible to my bouquets to gently teach my customers about nature’s abundance. Now I am retired from cut flower farmer and am turning the farm over to a wildflower nature preserve. Thank you!
